4 Life-Changing Lessons from 4 Consecutive Summers in NYC
Money Can Buy Happiness (Up to a Certain Point)
Each year, I slightly upgraded my living situation, and eventually, I no longer felt the downsides of the cityāexcessive trash, rats, bugs, or the burden of lugging heavy items. With these upgrades, my quality of life improved, showing that money can indeed buy happiness, but only to a certain extent. You Canāt Find Success Unless You Find Your Playground
This year, I tripled my followingāa major goal of mineābecause I allowed myself to play. As a city girl, NYC in the summer became my playground. It wasnāt until I embraced the inner child in me and indulged in that playful energy that I found my spark and finally mastered my art.Professional and Personal Friendships Come from Different Sources but Are Equally Critical
Itās essential to seek both types of relationships, as they often come from different people. After quitting my job, I over-indexed on the ānetworking hustleā and expected professional relationships to fulfill my social needs. That was disappointing. I realized how important it is to invest in āfun friends,ā even if their work and life values differ from mine.Love Something Enough to Let It Go
Iāve experienced my greatest successes with money, creativity, and relationships when I became deeply obsessed. NYC is a profound obsession for me, and it has been the backdrop for some of my most transformational experiences and achievements. However, like anything amazing, it can become a double-edged sword. Sometimes, I get so caught up in it that it starts to become a distraction. Learn to channel your obsession into incredible work, and then let it go, so you can return to it with renewed energy.
Happy end of summer āļø
