If I had to start my career over tomorrow, this is the first thing I’d do:

Imagine having a group of people you could email whenever you wanted to make your next move. If you were looking for a new job, you could tell them what you had in mind, and someone might be hiring or know exactly who you should meet. If you were working on a project, you could share it and find your first waitlist customers. Or if you were heading to a conference and wanted people to interview, you could ask who was going and have those conversations lined up before you even got there.

This is what I mean when I talk about creating more surface area for luck. When people know what you care about, what you’re good at, and what you’re looking for, it becomes much easier for them to think of you when something comes up. That’s the kind of inbound life I want to build, and having a newsletter has been a huge part of that for me.

I actually started this newsletter years before my social media career, before I was building a business or even knew exactly what I wanted to do. It’s been the launchpad for every career pivot I’ve made since, including getting into social media. You’re actually reading it right now, and I’ve been building it on beehiiv from the beginning.

A personal brand is one of the most powerful things you can build in 2027, especially when you have a direct way to reach the people who care about what you’re doing. However, you can have 100, 1,000, or a million followers on social media but still be waiting for an algorithm to show them your next post. With a newsletter, you can email the people who signed up to hear from you without having to figure out how to turn your career update or question into a trending video first.

What I also love is how specific that group of people can be. For me, it’s ambitious women thinking about their careers, money, and building lives on their own terms, so the replies, introductions, and opportunities that come out of it are connected to things I already care about. You don’t have to own a business for that to be useful. Even if you’re still figuring out what you want to do, you’re building relationships with people you can keep turning to as your life changes.

And over time, that newsletter can become another source of income, too. I use beehiiv to publish and grow mine, and its paid plans include an Ad Network that connects you with advertisers, and you can also charge for premium content through paid subscriptions. The best part? beehiiv has a 0% take on earnings, so you keep everything! So while you’re building a network that could help you find your next opportunity, you could also be building a side hustle. It takes time to grow that revenue (made shorter by beehiiv’s built-in growth tools), but having another source of income can give you a little more room to decide what you actually want to do next.

When I started this newsletter, I didn’t know all the ways I’d end up turning to it. I’m just really glad I started building those relationships before I needed them, and if you’ve been thinking about starting your own newsletter, don’t wait until you need it.

Why you have BIG DREAMS but never do anything about them

What if the reason you haven’t achieved the life you want isn’t a lack of talent, but the way you’re pursuing it?

In this video, I break down the three principles I’ve used every time I’ve reinvented myself. These strategies helped me teach myself to code from scratch, land six figure opportunities in Big Tech, build a multi-million dollar company, and grow an audience of over 1 million people.

The challenge is simple: commit to these three principles for the next 90 days and see how much your life can change.

If you’re taking the 90-day challenge, leave a comment on the video and come back in 3 months to share what changed!
