Transcript 0:00 Okay, you know that one friend that graduated college with literally no job, moved to a high-rise luxury building in a big city, and then two weeks later gets their dream job at Dior, looks flawless every day at the office, and has a million friends? 0:11 That's not luck. That's a girl who has really good habits. And if you wanna be in the top one percent like these girls, you need to be really good every single day. 0:18 The problem is, it's hard to be your best every single day. You're sick, you're tired, maybe it's just an off day. 0:23 But that's where habits are a game changer because it makes success happen automatically, even on those bad days, because your brain is just so used to doing them. 0:30 Which is exactly what I'm gonna break down, the seven habits I learned that had the biggest difference. I grew up in San Francisco, in Silicon Valley, around a bunch of wealthy billionaires. 0:39 I wasn't a billionaire, I grew up middle class, so I got very fascinated with this type of person and what it really took to be this successful. 0:45 I started copying a bunch of their habits, and by the time I turned twenty-five, I became a millionaire. 0:48 Going to one of the most prestigious schools in the country, and now I live in my dream home running my dream business. These habits work, girls, trust me. So let's get into it. 0:56 Okay, number one, and this first one's gonna be kinda gruesome and weird, but just bear with me here. It's called the dead man walk, and it's actually a famous Latin phrase. 1:03 The idea is every single day you go on a short walk and you pretend like it's your last day on Earth. 1:08 You literally simulate what it would be like to die tomorrow, and you think about all the things you're grateful for, all the things you would do today knowing it's your last day on Earth. 1:15 It creates this insane sense of gratefulness in your everyday life, and all that positivity is gonna permeate all your decisions, actions, the people that you talk to, and your day will literally become different as a result of it. 1:27 More than that, if you have this gratefulness and this excitement about your life, if you truly do believe that it's your last day on Earth, you're gonna make different decisions. 1:34 You're gonna be a lot riskier and more courageous. And it only works if you really take this activity seriously, and you think about truly what it would be like if today was your last day. 1:42 And I know that sounds, like, very negative, but it ironically creates this day-to-day positivity and greatness that truly has the ability to change the trajectory of your entire life. 1:51 The thing is, we all have things we're grateful for, but we're never focused on it on a day-to-day basis. Like, I don't know about you, but I'm constantly looking at what other people are doing. 1:59 I have FOMO of the influencers that were taken to Coachella. I'm constantly thinking about this other person that raised X million dollars for their business. 2:05 It is so difficult to look within regularly and be appreciative of things that I do have. The many privileges and advantages and things that I've been able to achieve that many people in the world haven't. 2:16 And by focusing on that, I'm gonna just approach my day so much more differently than if I started it super negative about all the things that I didn't have. 2:24 And negative people's anxiety and stress and cortisol is all increased, and ironically, you're actually gonna live a shorter life when you don't practice this gratefulness. 2:33 So I just found that this is a really great hack that works for me to make sure that I'm starting every day super positive. And the plus side, I get my 10K steps in right out the door. 2:41 Okay, number two, and I know this is gonna sound very difficult to do in the beginning, but it actually becomes infinitely easier over time. It's making this a habit that makes it so powerful. 2:49 But every single day, I make content a ticket to do things. 2:52 So if I wanna go hang out with my friends, if I wanna go watch a movie with my boyfriend, if I wanna go to a baby shower or a birthday party, I have to earn it, and the way that I earn it is by making a piece of content. 3:03 The thing is, I have to get ready for it no matter what, right? I have to do my hair, do my outfit, do my makeup, because I'm seeing my friends and a bunch of people, right? 3:09 I'm not gonna just walk out the door in my PJs. And if I'm anyways gonna do that work, might as well turn that into a get ready with me. 3:16 That is how I ended up actually building this huge following online, is every single day, whenever I wanted to go somewhere, I would do a get ready with me to earn my way out the door. 3:24 At first, it was really, really difficult. I'm putting my makeup on, I'm trying to say something meaningful, and obviously the video was flop. 3:29 But what happened over time is I made it a habit, and I actually started getting really good at sharing my life on the internet, sharing what I'm building, sharing my career journey, and as a result, became a thought leader in my space, which makes me millions of dollars today. 3:41 But more importantly, it increases your chance for luck, increases your serendipity, right? 3:45 Like, if you don't wanna be an influencer, just spending those 20, 30 days that you're getting ready as a means to put out content in the world, you're gonna build a personal brand, and in 2026, a personal brand is just table stakes to getting a job, to getting your name out there, to having any sort of business at all. 4:01 I know that sounds, like, difficult and scary, but I wish it was any other way. 4:06 The resume is dead, and the only way you're gonna reach new people and create more opportunity for yourself is if you have a social media presence. 4:13 If you carve out time multiple hours a day to try to build this, it becomes too difficult. In the social media game, consistency is what wins. It's actually not about who has the best content. 4:24 You can copy viral hooks all day you want, but it's really the ones who show up to it every single day. 4:28 If I didn't wanna film content and I still wanted to go do things, I would have to go look super ugly because I wouldn't have done my makeup, I wouldn't have done my hair, and that was my punishment. 4:37 After doing that one or two times, I really buckled up and showed up to the content game in a way that I never had before. It was such a hack, but it worked so well. 4:45 So if there's anything you're trying to consistently do every single day that feels very difficult to do, and it's a mindset thing, use it as your ticket to go out and do things to have fun. 4:53 Create a reward system where you have to earn it. Okay, number three is my favorite one, but you cannot have ego when you do this. You have to fabricate risk and urgency in your life to create true stake in the game. 5:04 What does that actually mean? 5:06 If you're trying to make a million dollars in your business, if you're trying to get a job, if you're trying to get your dream house, you have to create reasonable urgency and stake in the game where you genuinely feel a fire under your ass. 5:15 When I quit my job, the first thing I did was lock all my money in a CD. Basically, that means I couldn't touch that money. The thing is, when I quit my job, I had a lot of money. 5:25 I actually became a millionaire simply from equity at this big tech company that I joined when I graduated college. 5:30 And so the thing is, if I just had access to that pot of money, I would just convince myself I had plenty of time. I had years to figure it out because I had years of runway. 5:38 It was a lot of money for a 20-something girl, but it's not enough money to create generational wealth and build a family from it one day. So I knew I needed to create a successful career. 5:47 Locking that money away, I did feel the fight or flight and survival of like, "Holy shit, how am I gonna pay rent this month? How am I gonna buy my groceries?" 5:54 And that made me figure out what the heck I need to do in my business to make sure that I started making money as soon as tomorrow and get my business in a good place. 6:02 The thing is, when your body is in that fight or flight survival mode, it'll come up with an idea as you would never come without that sense of urgency. 6:10 It stretches your brain to be creative and figure out and problem solve. And the reality is, not all of us are in a situation where we can't put food on the table. 6:18 We don't have that inherent caveman fight or flight in our life. I had this really successful career. I was making a lot of money, but I was deeply unhappy. 6:26 I needed to find a new career that was better aligned to my purpose, that gave me more joy and excitement in my day-to-day life. 6:32 So I needed to create a story and literally intentionally psyop myself to figure out how I was gonna have real urgency to figure out how to make money. Because the truth was, at that time, I didn't have any. 6:43 If I wanted to make money, I should just go back to my job. But that wasn't what I wanted to do with my life. 6:48 Whether you're going for your dream job, you wanna lose 10 pounds, you wanna go viral on the internet, you wanna build a personal brand, whatever that crazy goal or dream that you're chasing, you have to tell yourself a story that's believable, that's gonna make you feel like you have to figure it out no matter what. 7:02 You have to die trying, that it's truly a fight or flight mode here. Putting all my money away in a savings account that was locked that I could not touch worked for me. 7:10 It gave me that fight or flight survival mode of money because I still needed to pay my bills. I did not have a trust fund dad.Who could have supported me. But that doesn't necessarily mean that's what you have to do. 7:21 Think about a story that you could tell yourself that's gonna create that same level of urgency and risk. And be honest with yourself, you know what's actually gonna work for you. 7:28 Maybe it's inviting all your friends and family to dinner and announcing your goals to them, because if you fail at it, it's gonna be so deeply embarrassing. 7:34 Even that stake and urgency that you create in yourself where you have to figure it out and you have to succeed no matter what to risk that social embarrassment. You know yourself the best. 7:43 Whatever your biggest fear is, use that to your advantage, and go chase that crazy, ridiculous dream. And stick to that story that you tell yourself every single day, and then success will be inevitable for you. 7:53 Okay, number four, this one's gonna be difficult to implement if you're very type A and organized, like me. But once I did this, I actually saw crazy results in my life immediately. But I got rid of my to-do list. 8:04 I only have a goals list, and I only ever have one goal at a time. That to-do list that you think is making you more productive is actually just a distraction. 8:11 Responding to that email, filling out that report, that errand you have to run is actually just taking you away from your number one goal. 8:17 And your number one goal should be something that if you were to make it, would truly change your life overnight. 8:22 That could be something like a high-paying job, 100,000 followers on Instagram, even meeting the love of your life, whatever that crazy, big goal is. 8:30 You can convince yourself that there's certain to-do lists or tasks that you have to do to get there, but once you remove the to-do list entirely and you just focus on your goal every single day, you'll find that all these little things on your to-do list are just things you're convincing yourself that you're productive for. 8:44 And the reality is, if you ignore that to-do list, you're gonna create a lot more time in your life to actually focus on what the big challenge is in front of you, the real problem you're trying to solve in your life. 8:53 And the ironic funny part about this, yeah, you're gonna face minor consequences here and there by not doing your to-do list. 8:58 Maybe someone gets mad at you for not responding in time, or you miss getting groceries one day, but eventually that list becomes outdated because a to-do list is not your most meaningful work. 9:08 Instead, every morning you're gonna decide what your one goal for that day is, and you're gonna do everything in your power that day to make sure that you meet that one goal, and you do it to the best of your ability. 9:17 Everything that you do in your life will be much more focused and much higher quality work. High quality work consistently over time is what actually moves the needle and gets you to your goal. 9:26 Maybe it's like, "Today I wanna make a viral video," or, "Today I wanna make the best resume of my life," or, "Today I wanna have the most fire outfit when I go on stage." 9:34 Because when you put an entire day of focus and then your entire energy on one thing for eight hours, the video goes viral, the resume gets you the job, and you meet the love of your life. 9:44 All in a day of work, you've created life-changing output. But if you get stuck in your to-do list and you're doing 50,000 meaningless tasks that don't move you anywhere, you're gonna be stuck for the rest of your life. 9:54 Okay, number five is not exactly a habit and it's kind of a hot take, but I actually stole this from a bunch of billionaires that I knew growing up, and this truly does make a difference. 10:04 I'm not a billionaire, you're not a billionaire, but it does still have that same power to change your life. Every quarter, I want you to go on a one-week hibernation. What does a hibernation actually mean? 10:14 You're not talking to your friends. You're not talking to your family. You're not going out. You're not going to events. You're not socializing. 10:20 Maybe if you live with a partner, sure, obviously you can interact with them, but it's really just opting out of the daily routine and opting out of your daily expectations and responsibilities in the world. 10:30 Think of it like a vacation where you don't go anywhere, because sometimes the most breakthrough ideas come from a period of isolation. 10:37 When you're truly rested, when you're completely decluttered in your space and in your mind, you don't have expectations from anyone, that is when your mind and your subconscious does the deep work. 10:46 It creates the space for your deepest thoughts to emerge from your subconscious, and that's how you solve those really hard challenges in life, the one that 99% of people can't solve. 10:55 That's how you become top one percent. 10:57 Whether it's a challenge in your business, a challenge in your relationship, a challenge within yourself, by taking this one week every quarter, you can live your next quarter so intentionally and so goal-oriented. 11:09 Doing this every quarter and sticking to it, I'm able to get more progress in one quarter than most people can do in multiple years. 11:16 And now doing it every quarter, every year, I'm leapfrogging decades of experience for most people my age. You're getting like four years in one year, basically. 11:25 Number six, I think this one's really important to talk about because we live in this hyper-obsessed internet, constantly connected world, but you need to get your emails to work for you. You don't work for your emails. 11:35 What does that actually mean? If you spend a singular day in corporate America, you know that emails are the central thesis of everything that gets done. It's a thing you're gonna check 50 times a day. 11:45 It's a thing your boss is gonna yell at you for not responding on time. It's kind of your, in some ways, your map of what you're supposed to do that day. 11:52 And that's actually a terrible way to get anything done and actually be exceptional in the world. Instead, look at your email as a suggestion. Only.1% of your emails have something in them that advances your life. 12:03 The rest of the emails have something in them that advances the sender. Think of it as homework assignments, and we're not in school anymore. We don't do homework assignments. 12:11 We don't do things for other people all day for free. 12:14 So if you start to rewire your brain to think like that, and you only answer the emails that move your goals forward, you're gonna realize most of your emails don't need an answer. 12:23 We need to stop living in this culture where we need to get inbox zero and we need to respond to everyone. You don't owe anyone anything. You're living your life on your own terms. 12:30 You're living your life for yourself, not for everyone else. 12:33 And most of what I've gotten in life has been from ignoring emails, because over time, that 20, 30 minutes responding to all these emails that aren't actually truly for me, they add up and they take a lot of my time. 12:44 And the.1% of emails that bring more money in my pocket, bring more leads in my pocket, help me hire someone, help me move my life forward, give me a good idea, those are the emails that I wanna focus on, and I wanna put two, three, four times more energy into that email so I can actually get something out of it. 12:59 Stop looking at your inbox as a to-do list. Instead, look at it as a grocery store that you visit once a week, and you self-select the items that nourish and fill you up. 13:06 And the best part about this strategy is because most emails are not people just throwing opportunities my way, I don't even check emails Monday to Thursday. 13:13 I check them 4:00 PM on a Friday on my time when I'm exhausted from the week. So I'm putting my highest potential and my most creative energy on the more important things in life. Not getting back to people. 13:24 And number seven, the last one, leave places early. Don't leave when your cup is full, when your energy is done, when you've completely lost all your battery. 13:33 Whenever you feel like it's the right time to leave, whether it's a networking event, whether it's moving out of a new city, leaving a party, you're usually too late. 13:41 You're already leaving when things got kind of awkward, you started to feel a little tired, you had weird conversations, or you're no longer feeling full or nourished by the event. 13:50 And the reality is, whether you have to leave a party or move out of a city, it takes a decent amount of time and logistics and planning. 13:57 So as a result, by the time you're ready to leave, and by the time you've figured out actually how you're gonna leave, it's been a lot longer since when was the appropriate time to leave. 14:06 So if you kind of have that mindset of leaving places early constantly, you're actually gonna leave everywhere right on time. In your 20s, in your defining decade, we have very little time to make it out here. 14:16 10 years is actually very short to build a successful career, to build enough wealth that we can eventually have kids and a family and afford them, right? 14:24 Like, it's scary and difficult and hard to be a 20-something in the world, and it's even harder to be a young woman, someone who really cares about their career and wants to have kids and a family one day. 14:33 Like, that's overwhelming. You don't have a single minute to spare. 14:36 By leaving places early and having that mindset in everything you do every single day, you're actually gonna end up leaving places on time, and you're not gonna be wasting time in your defining decade. 14:46 Whether you're stuck in a job you don't like, you're stuck in a friend group you don't like, you're stuck in a city you don't like, you have to notice these feelings and you have to notice them often every single day as a daily practice. 14:57 And the second that you feel like it's coming on, leave. Even if it feels early, because you risk the danger of leaving too late, which almost always happens. 15:06 Because by the time you fully feel those feelings and you do the work you need to do to leave, whether it's, you know, giving your two weeks notice or figuring out how to sell your furniture, you've wasted way too much time in that very critical part of your life. 15:19 It's a very difficult mindset to have, but if you truly wanna be in the top 1%, this is how it gets done. These are the seven most effective habits that have changed my life. 15:27 These are all came from observations from ultra successful women and billionaires around me where I grew up, so I know they work. 15:34 At the end of the day, everyone's different with unique circumstance, so take them as you will and what makes sense for you. 15:39 No one's situation or dreams or goals are the same, but there is a very formulaic traits and characteristics, habits of people that do truly make it big in the world. 15:49 I would say just try these for 30 days and see how it completely changes your life. If it doesn't, fine, I was wrong. 15:56 But I'm so confident that this is something that if you stick to, if you go through the hard, suckish parts of what it takes to truly build a habit in your life, your life will never look the same. 16:07 And I'm just so excited to even be making this video and sharing this with you because I feel so confident that if you've gotten to this point of the episode, your life is gonna look so different starting tomorrow. 16:19 I wanna see my girls win.
